In a quaint town, an explosive mix of gelato and murder is about to upset the order of things. When an old matriarch passes away and bequeaths the family gelateria to her feckless son; a war breaks out between him and his ambitious sister and underdog brother.
Step right up and enter the wild world of Sugartown, where gelato is the name of the game and murder is the secret ingredient. Meet our three siblings: Andrea (39), Leo (38) and Nino (23). Their parents met as immigrants from Italy and Poland and founded a gelateria 40 years ago, the second best in town. Today Andrea manages the family‘s ice cream store and takes care of their ailing mother. Nino is a bored policeman. Leo is a drug-addicted party animal in Berlin. When Andrea lets Magda (65), their ill-tempered mother, drown in the bathtub, the siblings come back into each other‘s lives and soon learn that Magda left the ice cream store to Leo. This creates enormous tension between Leo and Andrea, who grudgingly offers him a deal to sell the business to her. Meanwhile, Nino tries to get more involved in the family business, but his siblings are too busy to pay him any attention. Chaos ensues when Leo who is deep in debt surprisingly rejects Andrea‘s deal. He and his DJ girlfriend Mia (31) take over the ice cream store. But their unusual business ideas soon lead to an unexpected success. A short-lived one as Leo‘s estranged father, Giovanni (70), returns to town after abandoning his family 20 years ago. Andrea doesn‘t trust him one bit, while her brothers believe Giovanni has good intentions. But Andrea is right not to trust him. Giovanni slowly undermines Leo‘s leadership and secretly leads the police to exhume Magda‘s body. And that‘s not all, Giovanni proposes to the owner of the rival ice cream store, Vincenza (65), claiming that together they can build an ice cream empire. To seal the deal, he promises her an engagement ring. Afraid of what the police will find, Andrea confesses to Leo that she‘s responsible for letting their mother drown. Leo comes up with a plan to help her. While Leo and Andrea steal Magda‘s body from the morgue, Nino finally realizes that Giovanni is a wolf in sheep‘s clothing and traps him in the walk in freezer. As if getting rid of two dead bodies wasn‘t already tricky enough, Vincenza discovers what they did. Fortunately, the police don‘t believe her and the three siblings manage to bury their parents in a forest clearing, where Leo decides to give the business back to Andrea. And this would be our happy ending if it wasn‘t that Vincenza takes matters into her hands and finds the engagement ring that Giovanni had promised her in the freezer. Now, she‘s more determined than ever to make the three siblings pay.
